World’s Smallest Working Model Train Layout?

This is an N scale model of an HO scale train layout–a model of a model! Although it measures only 1/2-inch wide, the train runs and the station lights up. It’s shown here with a dime. For details on how this was made, go to: whiteriverandnorthern.net Don’t believe it’s real? See the video: www.youtube.com I also built one that’s even smaller: www.youtube.com

Very cute. But it’s not a model train.
It’s a plastic shape of a model train being went around in a circle by outside forces.

    Still very cute though.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t build an entire layout in that scale. :( I could condense the layout I’m plotting onto a sheet of paper. :(

Here, picture this. Pretend you are an N scale person living on an N scale layout. Now using some N scale tools and HO scale modeling supplies, you build an HO scale model layout. Now, what have you built? It’s an HO scale layout, built in N scale. It’s an N scale model. Of an HO scale layout. Do you get it yet?

    it still isn’t N scale

Are you paying attention? It’s a model of a model. An N scale model of an HO layout. It WILL be smaller than N. Smaller than Z. In fact, it will be a scale of 13,920:1.

what the hell…N is not that small Z isn’t even that small

Well, I know quite a few dumbasses, then. This thing has been on show for a model layout tour, so many people have seen it for real. Anyway, why do you automatically dismiss it as not real? I suppose the moon landing was a hoax to you.

Anyone who believes its real is a dumbass….

Well, since I built the thing, I reckon I ought to know what scale I’m modeling. Of course, you can reverse a model of a model: This could be an HO model of an N scale layout. But since I built it to fit inside an N scale leisure activity shop window, it more or less has to be an N scale model of an HO scale layout. That’s assuming you’re following along with the concept of a model of a model in the first place… I’m not entirely convinced that you are, necessarily.

Are you sure this is N scale and not a smaller scale like Z scale?

    >CONTINENTAL United States in the size of a bedroom

Not quite. this is 1:13920 scale. The US is 3000 miles across, approximately. At that scale, the continental US would be about 1/5 of a mile.

New York City, now, that’s about 25×40 miles, that would fit in a largish room, say 9.5×15 feet.
